This is Txabi, he is a sociologist from the Complutense University of Madrid. He is currently working at Unesco .Nowadays, he lives in Algorta but he has lived an intense life. Apart from that, he has written some books, such as ‘ Antologia de un desliz ‘.
At 30 Txabi began working in a pizza restaurant in Algorta. In a specific point in time, he decided to change his life and work in voluntary international projects, that is why he went to Madrid. There, he did a Master’s degree in international cooperation and he trained for future voluntary jobs.
Once he had trained, he went to Mozambique and Nabilia to work at a refugee’s camp as a volunteer and he was there for six years. Txabi arrived there in 90’s and he was there during the war between FRELIMO and RENAMO and he was able to collaborate on the peace process of the country. After that, he lived in many other countries. For example, he lived in Salvador for two years due to an European Union Project of Land Transferred to those people who had been moved during the war.
He also told me that he had run for a period of 8 years an NGO called ‘ Hirugarren Mundua Eta Bakea’, ( nowadays it is called Mundu bat ) and travelling around the world. But when he had had 20 years of experience as volunteer and he had travelled extensively, Txabi decided to come back to the Basque Country due to the fact that at that moment his priority was his family.
Since 2009 Txabi has been working at Unesco Etxea where he has performed different functions. Nowadays, in his position, which is institutional relations, involves being in touch with institutions and enterprises collaborating with the design and elaboration of their projects.
The main function of Unesco Etxea is education, human rights, environment and cultural heritage. I mean, they carry out outreach campaigns, they give scholarships and do research without any political influence.
